FAQ

How can a facility with a high QM for pain address the issue when it is based upon the interview?

A: Although the interview is a snap shot of how the resident feels, it is important to have a well defined policy and procedure for routinely completing a detailed pain assessment, providing documentation to support routine monitoring of current interventions, changing interventions when needed and documentation to indicate that PRN medications were offered, as well as, the use of non-medication interventions. Pain management requires involvement of the entire team to address and treat. Once an issue is identified, it can be very helpful to develop a QAPI process to manage it.
